Windsor Mill Mechanic Wins $100,000 Crossword Scratch-Off Prize
A randomly selected $10 ticket produced 10 matching words in puzzle number 3, and the retailer that sold it will receive a $1,000 bonus.
A retired diesel mechanic from Windsor Mill won a $100,000 top prize on a $100,000 Crossword 9th Edition scratch-off ticket in Maryland, after a randomly selected $10 ticket produced 10 matching words in its third puzzle.
The winning ticket was purchased at Columbia Fine Wine and Spirits, a retailer at 10400 Shaker Drive. The Maryland Lottery said the retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-tier winning scratch-off ticket.
The player did not specifically choose the Crossword game. Instead, the $10 ticket was selected through a random selection process. That chance selection led to the game’s highest available prize on the ticket.
The winning result came from puzzle number 3. The puzzle produced 10 matching words, which resulted in the $100,000 prize.
The Windsor Mill player was excited after learning how much the ticket had won. The retired mechanic plans to save the winnings rather than identify another immediate use for the money.
Retirement has not ended the player’s connection to mechanical work. The winner works on and restores antique cars for shows, continuing that activity after a career as a diesel mechanic.
The $100,000 Crossword 9th Edition launched in August 2025. At the time of the win, one of the game’s original nine $100,000 prizes remained unclaimed.
The Maryland Lottery had also launched a newer version of the game. The 10th edition of the $100,000 Crossword ticket went on sale in August 2026, and all nine of its $100,000 top prizes remained available at the time of the announcement.
The two editions therefore had different prize positions when the Windsor Mill win was announced. The ninth edition had one original top prize still unclaimed, while the newer 10th edition still had all nine of its $100,000 top prizes available.
The win also produced a separate benefit for the retailer that sold the ticket. Columbia Fine Wine and Spirits is set to receive the $1,000 bonus associated with selling a top-tier winning scratch-off.
