Van Buren County woman wins $1 million on grocery-trip lottery ticket

A Van Buren County woman discovered the prize the afternoon after buying a Bonus Multiplier ticket during a grocery trip in Midland.

A grocery trip ended in a $1 million lottery win for a 61-year-old woman from Van Buren County. The Michigan Lottery said she bought the winning Bonus Multiplier instant ticket at a Meijer store in Midland.

The store is at 7300 Eastman Avenue. The lottery did not specify when she bought the ticket, so the purchase cannot be tied to a particular date.

The winner did not scratch the ticket during the grocery trip. She said she forgot about it and scratched it the following afternoon, when she discovered the prize.

The woman chose to remain anonymous. She later went to Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim her prize.

At the time of the claim, she selected a one-time payment of about $693,000. The alternative was annuity payments totaling the advertised $1 million prize.

She plans to put some of the money toward home improvements and to set up savings accounts for her grandchildren.

Bonus Multiplier launched in August 2026. Tickets cost $10, and the game's prizes range from $10 to $1 million.

As of September 28, the Michigan Lottery said players had won more than $7 million playing Bonus Multiplier. The lottery also said more than $39 million in prizes remained at that point, including two $1 million top prizes, 36 prizes of $10,000 and 184 prizes of $2,000. Those figures describe the game's position on that date, not a current prize count.

Readers following Michigan's draw games can find current numbers on the latest Michigan lottery results page. Bonus Multiplier is an instant game, so this win came from a purchased ticket rather than a draw.
