South Dakota authorizes Powerball X's and O's NFL lottery game
South Dakota authorized Powerball X's and O's, a $5 NFL-themed game with an 8-of-32 team-logo format, a $1 million starting jackpot and weekly Sunday drawings.
South Dakota has cleared the way for Powerball X's and O's, a new lottery game that replaces traditional numbers with NFL team logos and pairs weekly drawings with football-themed second-chance prizes.
The South Dakota Lottery received authorization to offer the game effective August 4, 2026, under a rule approved by the South Dakota Legislature. The game is being introduced as a partnership between Powerball and the National Football League, according to South Dakota Lottery Executive Director Norm Lingle.
Powerball X's and O's costs $5 per play. Players choose eight distinct logos from the 32 NFL teams, creating an 8-of-32 format built around team symbols instead of numbered balls.
The game will feature a rolling cash jackpot that starts at $1 million. Drawings are planned every Sunday, with 52 drawings scheduled each year. Players can buy entries for as many as nine future drawings at one time.
Both winning and non-winning tickets can be submitted to a second-chance promotion. The promotion is set to offer NFL-related prizes, including NFL.com gift cards and the possibility of winning Super Bowl tickets.
Lottery.net reported that sales are scheduled to begin September 8, 2026, followed by the first drawing on September 13. Those dates place the first drawing on a Sunday, matching the planned weekly schedule.
