North Carolina man reportedly discovers $1 million Powerball win after returning from New York

A $2 ticket bought in Warrenton matched all five white-ball numbers in the July 25 drawing, and George Boston reportedly discovered the win after returning from New York.

George Boston returned home from a trip to New York and reportedly found that a Powerball ticket he had left behind was worth $1 million.

Boston, of Warrenton, North Carolina, learned that a ticket sold in his town had won after hearing about the winning result and checking the ticket at home. The ticket was purchased for $2 at Tobacco Plus on East Macon Street in Warrenton for the Saturday, July 25, 2026, drawing.

The ticket matched all five white-ball numbers but missed the Powerball. That combination earned the game’s second-tier Match 5 prize of $1 million, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery. The odds of matching all five white balls were 1 in 11.6 million.

Boston reportedly received $720,101 after federal and state tax withholdings. The reported payment followed the discovery of the ticket and identification of the Warrenton winner.

The North Carolina Education Lottery said the winning ticket had 180 days from the drawing date to be claimed. Readers can check draw information on the latest Powerball results page.
