Maryland Man Wins $1 Million After Lottery Vending Machine Jams
A Carroll County man recovered the last $20 100X the Cash ticket from a jammed vending machine at a Manchester Sheetz and found a $1 million prize.
A jammed lottery vending machine in Manchester did not stop a Carroll County man from getting the last ticket inside, and the $20 scratch-off turned out to be worth $1 million.
The man purchased a 100X the Cash scratch-off ticket from a vending machine at the Sheetz store at 3281 Main Street in Manchester, Maryland. The machine jammed while dispensing the ticket, so assistance was needed to retrieve it.
The ticket was the final one remaining in the vending machine. Once the player had the ticket, it revealed a 100X symbol over a $10,000 prize. That combination produced the $1 million prize on the Maryland Lottery scratch-off game.
The winner confirmed the ticket through scans in the My Lottery Rewards app and at the retailer’s counter. He later claimed the prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on August 12, 2026.
The Maryland Lottery identified the winner as a longtime iron worker but did not disclose his name. The anonymous winner said he may use some of the money to help his grandchildren with college expenses and improve his home.
Sheetz will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning scratch-off ticket. The store’s sale connected the jammed vending-machine purchase with one of the largest prizes available on the $20 100X the Cash game.
