Genesee County Math Teacher Receives Michigan Lottery Education Award
A Genesee County mathematics teacher received the Michigan Lottery honor after a student’s parent nominated her for classroom support, a student pantry and school service.
A high school mathematics teacher in Genesee County has received the Michigan Lottery’s Excellence in Education award, bringing recognition to her work supporting students at Linden High School. The weekly award includes a $2,000 cash prize.
The educator teaches mathematics at Linden High School, which is part of Linden Area Public Schools. Her recognition focuses on responsibilities that extend beyond classroom instruction, including practical support for students and participation in school activities.
A student’s parent nominated the educator for the award. The nomination highlighted a classroom pantry that students can use as an open resource when they need everyday supplies.
The pantry contains food, toiletries and feminine products. Those items are available within the school setting, making the classroom resource part of the support the educator provides to students alongside her mathematics teaching.
The educator also serves as the freshman volleyball coach at Linden High School. That role adds coaching and school-team involvement to her work with students during her teaching position.
She has worked as an educator for four years, with all four years spent in her current position at Linden High School. She holds a bachelor’s degree and is pursuing a master’s degree.
The Michigan Lottery created the Excellence in Education awards in 2014. The program recognizes outstanding public-school educators.
Award nominees are evaluated on excellence, dedication, inspiration, leadership and effectiveness. Those criteria cover both the quality of an educator’s work and the broader influence the educator has within a school community.
The $2,000 prize is part of the weekly award given to each selected educator. The program also includes a further year-end recognition: one weekly winner is selected at the end of the school year as the Michigan Lottery’s Educator of the Year.
The Educator of the Year receives $10,000. That opportunity gives the weekly award a second stage of recognition beyond the initial prize and honors one educator from the group of weekly recipients.
The Genesee County award recipient’s nomination and school roles place student assistance, teaching and coaching at the center of the recognition. Readers looking for current Michigan Lottery information can visit the latest Michigan lottery results page.
