A Wayne County man’s daily ritual of buying a scratch-off ticket paid off in a big way when he won $1 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s Wild Cherry instant game. The lucky 50-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning ticket at the Way Station, located at 950 South Main Street in Plymouth. “I like playing all of the different Lottery games, and I have a daily ritual of stopping at the Way Station to purchase a scratch off ticket,” said the player. “I scratched the Wild Cherry ticket when I got home and when I saw it was a $1 million winning ticket, I had to scan it on the app to make sure I was reading it right. Once the app confirmed my prize, I woke up my wife to tell her the good news!” “Scratching off a $1 million winning ticket would be a dream come true for anyone, and it became a reality for this lucky player in an instant playing the Wild Cherry game,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “Congratulations to the player on his incredible win!” The player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. He chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount. With his winnings, he plans to complete some home improvements, take a vacation, and live comfortably. “The future is looking a lot brighter thanks to this prize,” said the player. “I feel extremely lucky to have won!” Players have won more than $16 million playing Wild Cherry which launched in September. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $1 million. More than $36 million in prizes remain, including two $1 million top prizes, 15 $10,000 prizes, and 157 $2,000 prizes. In 2023, Lottery players won nearly $1.8 billion playing instant games. Lottery instant games may be purchased at retailers across the state.
