Last month, Miran Smith purchased a lottery ticket at an Ashburn gas station as a gift for his aunt in Emporia.On Jan. 1, the Virginia Lottery announced that one of five top prize winning tickets in the New Year’s Millionaire Raffle promotion was sold at that store, Schmitz Sunoco on Creek View Plaza in the Goose Creek Village retail center.According to lottery officials that prompted Smith to contact his aunt, Geraldine Smith, to make sure she checked her ticket. Ticket #074973 was a $1 million winner. This week, the lottery announced the two agreed to split the prize money. The other four million-dollar tickets were bought in Fishersville, Henrico, Herndon and Moneta. Additionally, the promotion provided seven $100,000 prizes and 1,000 $500 prizes. Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. Loudoun County, received more than $23.6 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year, according to the agency.
