GLEN BURNIE, MD — Shari Hunt-Caldwell, a Glen Burnie resident and loyal Maryland Lottery player, caused a stir at her workplace after learning she won $100,000 in the Holiday Second-Chance Promotion. Hunt-Caldwell, a courthouse employee, was at work on December 4 when she received a call from the Maryland Lottery informing her of the win. “I started screaming at work,” she said. “It was unbelievable.” Her sudden excitement drew curious glances from coworkers, making it hard to keep her win a secret. However, Hunt-Caldwell managed to keep the news from her family for a few days, including her husband, Darryl. She invited relatives over to make a big announcement and handed each person a piece of paper revealing the $100,000 prize. Darryl recalled struggling to open his note and having to wait for others to reveal the news. “It was great,” he said with a laugh. The 61-year-old winner is no stranger to lottery luck. In 2023, she won club-level season tickets through the Ravens Second-Chance promotion. While Hunt-Caldwell hasn’t decided how to spend the $100,000, she is considering paying off bills and possibly making home improvements. “I never had that many zeros in my bank account,” she said, smiling.
