Any North Carolina resident entering kindergarten through eighth grade is eligible to enroll. “WEVS, a tuition-free public charter school, is located in the historic Corolla Village. The school follows the NC State Standard Course of Study through a project-based learning curriculum and a multi-grade classroom model,” noted a news release. “The school has grown from 15 students led by two teachers in 2012 to next year’s cap of 60 students led by a staff of seven. WEVS’s lottery does not discriminate on any basis, including race, color, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation or expression, national/ethnic origin, or disability. Grounded in partnerships with children and families, WEVS provides a rigorous, child-centered learning environment,” the release continued. “Leadership principles and an academically challenging, integrated, hands-on curriculum empower students by instilling a sense of social and environmental responsibility while nurturing both body and mind.” The drawing for new students will be held at the Corolla Library on Friday, March 7, 2025.
